I am a fisheries biologist currently working for a non-profit organization in the Central Valley of California. I have had the happy privilege of knowing Laurie for over 30 years. We first met in 1986 when I was pregnant with my second daughter. As young women we shared many of the same values and interests and became fast friends. I have always held her in high regard due to her refreshing honesty, sharp intelligence, fierce work ethic and amazing creativity. Not to mention her madcap sense of humor! Her unique personality and sense of integrity have served as a role model for my daughters and myself through the many years of our friendship. We have shared many happy experiences together including over 13 years of camping together each spring and fall at the Strawberry Music Festival. I recall one year when faced with a torrential rain storm, all the men gone fishing, and both baby girls in the tent as it began flooding…Laurie and I scooped them up, loaded them into my Mazda GLC and drove through the storm from Camp Mather to Greeley Hill to hold up for the night! Good times. I value Laurie as a trusted friend and can say she is one of the most personally accountable and invested citizens I have ever met. I recall in amazement when Laurie saved up her modest salary to buy first a car, then pay off a small home in five years! Laurie is known for never cutting corners, and always patiently doing the work to get to the desired end. I wish my friend the best of luck and know her community will be served with tireless commitment and a fair hand if Laurie is successful in this endeavor.
